White Fillings

White or tooth coloured fillings provide a more natural, mercury free alternative to traditional silver amalgam fillings. They can be used in the front or the back of the mouth, and are a natural-looking way to restore strength and function to damaged teeth. We can build up cracked or chipped teeth with a white filling to restore its original look. White fillings can also be used to close gaps, reshape uneven or short teeth and to fill cavities caused by tooth decay.

How are white fillings carried out?

After removing plaque, tartar, decay and any existing filling, the treatment site is cleaned and then dried. The tooth is then coated with a bonding solution. Once prepared, the white filling material is placed into the tooth cavity, then moulded to match the tooth contours. A curing light is then used to harden the filling before it is trimmed and polished to look like a natural part of your tooth.

What are the benefits of white fillings?

White fillings can restore cavities caused by decay, chipped, broken and worn teeth. The colour can be matched to your normal tooth colour to appear natural, so it isn’t noticeable when you smile. White fillings can also be combined with other dental treatments, such as inlays, crowns and bridges.

Are white fillings as good as silver amalgam fillings?

White filling have improved over time and are now comparable to silver amalgam. The life expectancy of a white filling can depend greatly on where it is in your mouth and how heavily your teeth come together when you bite.
